While the miniature bakery isn’t exactly ready for its grand opening quite yet, the addition of the front wall is making the room feel much more complete, which is pretty exciting. I’m dying to add the two bay windows in the front, but I’ve decided to finish the exterior of the front and rear wall with brickwork, and I think that will be easier to accomplish without the windows in the way.
Before I rush out to buy the brick-making material, I’d like to get your opinion. What do you think of pink-painted bricks for the front of the bakery? I’ll also be using the same finish for the back wall of the bakery, and I’m already envisioning a little “customer parking only” sign. 😉 Here’s an example of the brick I have in mind:
So again, this pink brick would cover the front and the rear exterior walls, and the side walls will likely be left white. I might add cement foundation stones and/or cornerstones to those walls to help conceal the join between the floor and the wall, and of course, I’ll put up a cute sign or two for the bakery, but otherwise, they’ll be left as is.
Here are a few images of the interior face of the front wall as I was building out the windows.
And here’s a view from the outside, along with a sneak peek at what the windows will look like once they’re installed–I can’t wait!
What’s next at this point? Well, I’ve decided that I want to get the bulk of the exterior construction done before I start in on the desserts, so from here I will be:
- doing the brickwork on the front and rear exterior walls
- installing and finishing the two doors to the bakery
- adding any finishing details to the top edge of the walls to make them look more polished
I’ll likely wait until the end to add more cosmetic details to the outside, such as signs and potted plants, but for now, the construction stage is coming right along, and I’m looking forward to showing you pics of my experiments with brickwork. 🙂

I really like the idea of the pink brick. I think the 3D brick texture will make the bakery look very nice!

Thanks so much for the input, Rebecca! I’m hoping it turns out as cute as I’m envisioning. 😀

Pink is perfect!! Then you could use pink gift paper with chocolate brown writing and brown curly ribbon!!

Oooh, how cute would that be? Thanks, Jan! 🙂

Mmm now I really want some bakery treats. 😉
The pink and brown (and white) color scheme would be really pretty, especially considering all the chocolate treats you could make!

Mmmm…chocolate treats… 😉 When I was looking up ideas for the bakery sweets, I found so many delicious chocolate desserts that I want to do an entire chocolate-themed room, so that might be next on the list!

I love the idea of pink brick!

Thanks, Susan! I just got the foam for the bricks last night, so fingers crossed that my first brickwork experiment goes well! 🙂

This is making me hungry,,I think I will go get a piece of sugar free chocolate cake from my freezer for dessert tonight. As of a year ago, I can’t eat sugar,,,,but look up “Brooksters (brownie with a chocolate chip cookie baked on top) They are made in a muffin tin without papers. They would be so cute on a cake plate under a clear dome!!

Oh, heavens. I just looked up Brooksters, and…WOW–don’t they look delicious! I’m also not eating sugar, and there are certainly times when that’s a bit difficult, looking at all of these tasty treats all day! You’re definitely smart, Jan, in keeping emergency sugar-free cake in the freezer. 😉

That pink brick looks fab! I think it’d look good as long as there was some distressing in your version — just so it’s not totally uniform. Otherwise I’d worry that it might be a little too precious 🙂 But I’m sure you’ll make it look amazing no matter what!

The pink brick would be fantastic and the Brooksters would be so right for this bakery. You always give everything amazing detail and this little shop is proving this once again.

Thank you, Diane! I really appreciate it! 🙂

Yes! I’m glad you brought this up, because I’ve been debating whether or not to add some natural wear and tear to the exterior. One of the things I love about miniatures is being able to make them “perfect,” like a house in a magazine spread, something that’s impossible to achieve in real life, but I know I sacrifice realism with that approach. And with the exterior (more so than the inside of the bakery), the perfection might be much less plausible…
I think I’ll go for perfect at first, and then once everything is done and I have a more holistic view of the bakery, I’ll reevaluate and see if it needs some roughing up. 😉
