It’s been ages since I’ve blogged because of an enormous project that wrapped up a little over a week ago, so I have an entire backlog of yummy miniature food pictures to share with you. First, here’s a peek at my messy work table mid-project–so much tiny food!
And here are a few of the teeny-tiny foods I’ve been working on since my last post. Cheesecake charms for a custom bracelet:
The next three photos are from a custom order that included grilled cheese sandwiches, tomato soup with croutons, chicken noodle soup, blueberry-pistachio tartlets, and lobster rolls with chips and cole slaw.
A pair of custom-ordered candy corn cupcake earrings:

How is it that your creations look more realistic every time you post big updates, and yet I would always swear that they looked incredibly realistic the time before?! I love seeing your worktable crowded with minis — it looks almost like a battleground with little edible armies facing off. Sigh. Not that I like war analogies, but I’d take on an army of tiny donuts anytime. 😉 And those cheesecake charms look so delicious I am craving cheesecake now, which is unfair to the homemade chocolate pudding and whipped cream in my fridge! <3

Aw, thank you, Lisa!! 🙂 And hee hee…the image of either of us battling an army of tiny donuts makes me smile. I would happily lose that one. Oh my, homemade chocolate pudding–yummm…(One thing I love about homemade pudding that some might find kind of gross: the skin that forms on top.)

Hehe. I’m not a fan of the skin that forms on top but I will definitely eat it. 🙂 I went to a diner for lunch today and they didn’t have any desserts whatsoever, and I was craving pie because diner = pie in my mind. I wanted chocolate cream pie but I didn’t have anything to make the crust so I just skipped the crust… so it’s basically chocolate pudding with cream. 😉
Speaking of recipes, have you seen this guy’s videos? http://foodwishes.blogspot.com/ I’m so charmed by his narration, and the videos look awesome. I’ve watched three or four and I want to make all the things!

I have only 1 word: WOW!!!
It’s so realistic! What do you use for sprinkles/confetti?
October 1, 2013 at 1:09 pm
Thanks, Pia! 🙂 I make the sprinkles and confetti by hand out of polymer clay.

Oh, diner totally = pie; I’m pretty sure that’s a universal law of some kind. hehehheh Your chocolate pudding/cream bowl sounds like my attempt at making a Boston cream pie that ended up with me just eating an entire bowl of pastry cream. 😉
P.S. I’d never heard of that Food Wishes blog, but I’m totally going to check it out. (Sweet Corn and Wild Mushroom Spoonbread? Mmm…)

Wow!!! These are amazing!!! I have a question, how do you make your cakes look so moist and soft!!! Every time I do it it comes out strange. I bought the cake book and I tried to freeze it but it never works! 🙁 Got any tips? 🙂
October 5, 2013 at 3:01 pm
Thanks, Marzia! I’d be happy to give you some tips, and if you can describe what is happening when you try it, I might be able to give you more specific advice. A couple of general pointers: Make sure you’re using plenty of translucent clay in your mix, pop the clay in the freezer like you mentioned, and don’t be afraid to go over the same spot multiple times with your texture tool to create nice, fluffy crumbs. Once the cake has been baked, if you want the cake to look really moist you can dab just the tiniest bit of varnish on the crumbs, but go easy because too much will make them look strangely wet. Hope that helps! 🙂

Fantastic as always. I especially like the cakes and those darling little donuts. It doesn’t matter how many times I see what you make, I’m always amazed. I went to the Foodwishes blog. I may just have to try homemade crackers.

Thanks, Diane! Let me know how the crackers turn out if you end up making them. I baked homemade graham crackers once, and they were delish! So much better than store bought. 🙂

Your work is just awesome! awesome!!!!. I have been looking and really interested every since the article you had in American Miniaturist on deserts A-Z. The last time I email you I told you about my club getting ready for NAME day and I was going to do deserts, will I finally finish and looking at your pictures with all the little deserts lined up, I just laughed; reminding me of what I just completed. I will send you pictures. Another thing I like and you really do it well is mixing the minis with jewelry, and when I not doing minis I am doing jewelry, but I might just have to mix them to gather. Again AWESOME, want to see more!!!

Hi, Dorothy! Thanks for reading! I would love to see your tiny desserts, and that’s so fun that you also make jewelry. 😀 If you ever want to send me pics of your pieces, feel free to email me at info[at]themousemarket[dot]com!

These are so cool. I have only just recently myself started diving into the world of miniatures. It is nothing as cool as this. I was inspired to make stuff for my daughters dolls. Your creations inspire me to broaden our little miniatures we have collected.

How fun! I started making miniatures for my own dolls when I was little, so I know how exciting it is to stumble upon an entire world of cute, tiny things–welcome to the obsession. 😉

I certainly will send you pictures matter of fact before the night is out. I know they are not as good as yours which would come with practice.

I can’t wait to see them, Dorothy!
