I have a kid friend whose birthday is coming up, and I wanted to make them something special. They love foxes and miniatures, so what could be better than a tiny animal camping set?
The nature scene is a piece of balsa with floral moss attached, and I wanted to incorporate items found on a walk we took together, like the hedgehog made from a sycamore seed ball (learn how to make the hedgehog here). There are also tiny acorns and little sprigs of dried flowers glued to the moss grass with a hot glue gun. The campfire is made from real twigs and red and orange feathers.
The bed roll is a strip of red flannel hot glued into a roll with little pieces of ribbon attached, and I glued a piece of fabric inside the picnic basket to complete the look.
Finally, I made two polymer clay marshmallows and baked them right on the little twigs, giving them a touch of hot glue at the base once they were baked and cooled to ensure they didn’t slip off.
I used little strips of red ribbon, hot glued on each end to temporarily secure the foxes and marshmallow sticks in place and masking tape to anchor the nature scene so all of the items look nice when the box is opened. This was so much fun to make! Can’t wait for the birthday party…
