Today was a day of signs and awning in the miniature bakery. Let me take you on a tiny tour of the new details I’ve added…
I spent a good deal of time on the side wall of the bakery, creating an awning and vintage ice cream posters on the walls (the bakery’s proprietor and pastry chef collects them and likes to put them on display). The awning isn’t permanently attached yet; it’s hanging on a little ledge I affixed to the wall. My thinking was that, should the bakery sell at some point, the awning would be nearly impossible to protect during shipping unless it was removable.
I also made a marshmallow moon sign (Marshmallow Moon is the name of the bakery) and painted a tiny bird house for the brick wall next to the front entrance.
Moving inside, the wall above the checkout counter has a new menu. I might paint the wooden strips white tomorrow, because the wood looks a little out of place. In the prep area, the sink now has a colorful dishrag, a bottle of eco-friendly dish soap, and a dirty pan waiting to be washed. I also made a roll of paper towels–there are a few more rolls tucked under the metal prep counter.
The little ice cream scooper was given its own bowl of water:
On one of the side walls I added more vintage sweets posters and one of my favorite pieces, a tiny cork board covered in flyers.
So, what’s next? Well, I need to finish the two display windows in the front. I really want them to be wonderful, and right now I’m not terribly thrilled with the way they look, so I’ll be revamping and finishing the windows this week. Then, it’s time to polish up the text for the companion tutorial book that will show you how to make the bakery. Luckily, about 90% of the text is done, so I mostly have proofreading and layout to do. Originally, I didn’t think I’d be done until the end of October, but the book will be ready well before that–hurray! Get an email as soon as it’s released by signing up here.
