Moo Discount & Sunshine Breakfast
29 Jul
Before I start talking about miniatures and become totally distracted, I wanted to share a coupon code for Moo.com, the place where I get my snazzy photo business cards. Every time I order a box, I get a coupon that can only be used by new customers, and it finally occurred to me that I can share it with my readers so it’s not going to waste. To get 15% off a pack of 50 business cards, use the code “G2MSCG.” There doesn’t appear to be any limit to the number of times this can be used, since the code is the same on all of my coupons, but you do need to be a new customer. Happy shopping!
This morning, I put the finishing touches on a custom breakfast table for one of my favorite customers, and I decided to go with an orange-pink color scheme. The table features two plates of toast and jam with country sausages, a little carton of orange juice (I bought that piece) with two glasses of orange juice (made from resin), a stack of buttermilk waffles topped with fresh fruit, a little griddle with sizzling bacon and sunnyside up eggs, and a tropical fruit salad preparation scene, all on a cute, white kitchen table. I’m super happy with the way it turned out.
Today, after a brief nap–I’m feeling super sluggish–I’m going to continue working on pieces for my upcoming show, starting with a number of side dishes to accompany the selection of burger platters I made earlier this week. I’ll likely mention this through the weekend, in case people are tuning in on different days, but my monthly newsletter comes out this Sunday, so be sure to sign up using the subscribe box on the upper right hand corner of this page. Thanks!

The breakfast looks like just what I’d want to wake up to on ANY morning!
So cheery and hearty. My parents raised me never to skip breakfast. ;b
Looking forward to your newsletter!
Me too! I am SO super cranky and unhappy if I don’t eat breakfast in the morning.
Random note: I finished reading Creating Nature in Watercolor last night, and I totally thought of you at various points, because the author’s lovely illustrations reminded me so much of the beautiful sketches and paintings that you’ve shared on your blog. I’m officially inspired to start drawing again!
Aw, thank you.
And yay inspiration!!!
I’m hoping that if I get back into a regular drawing practice (again, inspired by you
) I’ll be able to build my skills over time. The urge to be able to create more illustrations for my eventual mini food book is highly motivating!
The thought of seeing your drawings regularly makes me bouncy with excitement
How often are you thinking when you say “regular”? If we both commit to sharing drawings at certain intervals we could keep each other on it
Oooh, I’d love that! With my current schedule, I think I’m going to aim for one hour three days a week. What do you think? That should be consistent enough to start me back in the drawing habit (I used to draw every day in high school, which is kind of unbelievable to me now) without feeling like I have yet another task to bog down my work schedule.
In terms of when to start, my family’s coming next Tuesday-Friday, so I’m going to pencil in my first drawing date for next weekend.
Yay for family visit
I’ve put “drawing date” on my calendar too! I’m going to stick to my current 2 hours/week (which has gone haywire with recent Tisha stuff); that seems to be about all I can manage for the present.
Looking forward to sharing
I’ve added the drawing date to my Google calendar, which will pester me on the day of. Heaven knows I can use a little push when it comes to taking time off from work.
Although…I suppose I pacify my workaholic side with the knowledge that my drawing practice will eventually lead to the creation of a new shop banner and other work stuff!
Hahahaha I know, isn’t it ridiculous? Our inner adult won’t let the inner child play unless it’s useful! We’re such meanies!
Oh my gosh, I haven’t heard the word “meanie” since, like, grade school, but it totally applies here.
I should put a little sign up near my work station: “Remember, nobody likes a meanie.”
I am all for grade-school vocab working its way back into our lives.
The sign on my computer desk reads: “Would this still matter on a deserted island?” It’s to stop me fussing over the small stuff and all the “shoulds” I do for other people!
Haha! I love your sign.
I just put mine up, and it makes me smile every time I see it. Yay for everyday silliness and letting go!
